Correction: Chadwick’s first Black graduates, Kate and Leroy, enrolled in fall 1968 and graduated with the Class of 1969.
In Margaret Chadwick’s Adventure in Education written in the 1950s, she wrote: “The restrictions of the Rolling Hills and Palos Verdes areas have prevented Chadwick from including Negro children in the school’s enrollment. It is to be hoped that the winds that blow so vigorously across our beautiful acres will one day sweep away all prejudices. My husband and I desire greatly to accept children into our school family regardless of race or religion. A majority of our parents have expressed the same point of view.”
