Teacher caught giving A+

by BRYNN DRYE

An unnamed Chadwick Upper School English teacher has come under fire after awarding a student an “A+” grade on an essay.

“I thought to myself, this has to be a mistake,” said the student, who chose to remain anonymous. “I’m not complaining though.”

The essay, written on the central themes of a very well-known and very mundane award-winning novel, is currently under review by the English Department. The team is reviewing the essay in hopes of determining a “more reasonable and fair grade, like a ‘B-.’”

Chadwick’s Honor Council is also investigating the situation and has released a statement acknowledging the peculiar and upsetting incident.

“We are genuinely shocked and distressed by these allegations, which we take very seriously. The actions of this teacher do not reflect our Core Values of respect, honesty, compassion, fairness and …they do not reflect our Core Values, yeah.”

The Mainsheet attempted to speak with the teacher, who declined to comment. Sources, however, have stated that the teacher deeply regrets their irrational behavior.

The administration has begun discussions of dismissal and, possibly, a lawsuit.

Students have displayed mixed reactions toward the incident. While some have expressed admiration for the remarkable writer, others have grown green-eyed with envy and just downright indignant.

“Why couldn’t it have been me? I literally failed,” sobbed one student, who received an “A-” on the assignment.

In response to widespread distress, Chadwick’s SWELL Council organized a processing space during lunch for students to talk about their feelings. It was an emotional 45 minutes, full of tears and academic trauma, which students rarely share with others.

It’s been an unprecedented and stressful week in the Upper School, to say the least….
