The Mainsheet Trader Joe’s Essentials

Trader Joe’s … a Southern Californian-born phenomenon of a grocery store, perfect for two Southern Californian girls on a hunt for good snacks.

Our joint love for the brand first began on an Outdoor Ed trip not too far in the past. When reflecting on what wonders of civilization they would enjoy upon the pair’s return, Trader Joe’s was No 1.

Colloquially known as TJ’s, the grocery store’s signature is its private label. The store stocks products under its own name, and offers delectable gourmet foods. Given our great admiration for TJ’s, we just had to share our favorite offerings with you! Presenting our Trader Joe’s Essentials:

Super Sour Scandinavian Swimmers:

These colorful sea-life candies explode with a tangy, bitter flavor. We sampled these wonderfully chewy snacks during a post-Sweetgreen summer viewing of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Although Abby has a slight aversion to gummies, she is willing to admit that these particular sticky candies are among the best ever. Highly recommended for movie nights if one dislikes popcorn.

Slightly Coated Dark Chocolate Almonds:

When you get home after a long day of school and you get a craving for something sweet, but not too sweet … a light, healthy snack. These almonds have the perfect amount of sweetness and crunch. While Parker has her doubts about the true value of this small and unassuming munchie, this TJ’s product is officially the highest rated by Abby’s standards.

Daily Facial Sunscreen SPF 40:

Protecting their beautiful skin is a priority for the two Editors in Chief. The sunscreen is oil-free, fragrance-free, and water- and sweat-resistant, perfect for everyday protection or even a short trip to the beach or gym. It’s never too early to practice skincare, so don’t shy away from this effective and convenient product.

Tiniest Chocolate Chip Cookies:

Not to be confused with Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies, these buttery morsels take on a new definition of cookie. Another ideal afternoon snack, these super-duper small bites are crunchy, charming and chocolatey. Eating them by the handfuls is fun, mess-free and perfect for little hands … so basically perfect if one needs to bribe their little siblings or other troublesome small or bigger beings with a little treat (not speaking from experience).

Soft and Juicy Mango:

Mangoes, a beloved summer fruit until fall arrives and they vanish, but not to fear! Available year-round, Trader Joe’s Soft and Juicy Mangoes are the perfect snack for people who aren’t a fan of dried fruit because of its tender, easy-to-chew texture.

Sour Cream & Onion Flavored Rings Lentil & Rice Snacks:

This controversial product has divided The Mainsheet editorial board, with certain editors greatly enjoying the baked, gluten-free “onion” rings (Parker, Evan and Tish) and others finding them unappealing (Abby, Alana, and Ms. Chaintreuil). A passionate discussion is unavoidable, and we will soon see who comes out on top.

Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips:

A crowd-favorite, these fake Takis, or Fakis (according to Ms. Kim), represent the perfect ratio of spicy and sour. Some more creative members of the editorial team have found satisfaction in consuming these chips in conjunction with the above Super Sour Scandinavian Swimmers; nevertheless, readers should make their own decisions on their favorite snack pairings. We have ruled that these chips are the ultimate Mainsheet Trader Joe’s snack.

All in all, Trader Joe’s is truly the snack haven of the world. So if you are ever looking for a new favorite or seasonal snack, you know who to ask … your friends at The Mainsheet!
