At age 27, French actor Timothée Chalamet has captured the hearts and minds of fans worldwide. From rapping on SNL to dating Kylie Jenner, the young actor is arguably the Leonardo DiCaprio of the 21st Century.
As a superfan myself, I created a comprehensive list of what I think makes Chalamet so desirable.
Acting: Three years after landing his breakthrough role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Chalamet secured his status in Hollywood as Elio in the 2017 coming-of-age drama Call Me by Your Name, with a breathtaking performance way beyond his age of 21. Since then, his fanbase has only gotten larger. Chalamet has become a household name after landing roles in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and as Paul Atreides in Dune.
Chalamet has demonstrated his versatility as an actor in a plethora of roles, from playing a closeted gay teen in Call Me by Your Name, a kind cannibal in Bones and All, a drug-addicted young adult in Beautiful Boy and King Henry V in The King.
Lil Timmy Tim Lore: Chalamet’s musical roots trace all the way back to 2008, when he appeared in a video dancing to Soulja Boy’s Crank That, marking his first online appearance as Lil Timmy Tim.
His most famous creations, however, are a product of his high school years. “Statistics,” a video and diss track roasting his high school math teacher, is one of the rapper’s most well-known pieces, with performance clips from LaGaurdia’s Rising Stars Student Showcase also being at part of his discography. Timothée’s Lil Timmy Tim lore only adds to his already endearing and dorky persona.
Saturday Night Live: Timothée’s SNL performances are always iconic, from bringing back his rapper roots during Rap Roundtable with comedian Pete Davidson, to cosplaying as Troye Sivan with indie-music supergroup Boygenius. What makes his SNL hosting nights so pragmatic is his ability to reach an audience of all ages, opinions and beliefs with his hilarious monologues and undeniable charisma.
Dating History: Another aspect of Chalamet’s appeal is his vast dating history, from his widely known relationship with Lily-Rose Depp to his situationship with Kylie Jenner. Chalamet is a very attractive man stealing the hearts of admirers around the world, making his love life all the more enticing. Though Chalamet stays pretty secretive about his dating life, saying he feels “intensely judged” by the pressures of the media, he is also quite romantic when it comes down to it. In an interview with Vogue Paris, Chalamet observed, “When you love, love wholly. Love unabashedly.”
One of his first relationships at the start of his breakthrough as an actor was with Lourdes Leon, as she supported him through the release of the movie Call Me by Your Name. Chalamet became involved with Depp soon after their split, starting a relationship to remember. The stars became the “it” couple of 2018, traveling the coast of France together and breaking hearts when they announced their separation in April 2020.
His most recent relationship with Jenner has been highlighted all across social media, with the couple being spotted at concerts and tennis matches around the globe.
From his dating history to his rapper past, Timothée Chalamet is the heartthrob of the decade. His charisma, looks, acting and so much more make him a universal celebrity crush, and I think he deserves all of the love he gets.
