Dear College Guru

Dear College Guru,

I am a senior in high school, and I will be attending college in a different city next fall. My mom currently wakes me up for school every morning. Who will wake me up in college?
—Sleepy Son

Dear Sleepy Son,

Ah yes, isn’t it wonderful to be woken up by a soft nudge and a warm voice, as opposed to a harsh alarm? Worry not; you can take your mom to college with you. Some college dormitories have rooms for moms to live in so they can wake up their sons every morning. Bonus: They can also wake you up from afternoon naps.

And if your mom can’t go to college with you because of your younger brothers at home, you can use a “rent-a-mom” service available on many campuses.

Dear College Guru,

I am a senior in high school and will be in college next fall. I am late to almost all of my classes every day. Will this be a problem in college?
—Punctually Challenged

Dear Punctually Challenged,

Fear not, young scholar! A good college professor will completely understand that you have many important items to attend to, and they will be thrilled just to have you show up at all.

The key, though, is consistency. If the professor knows you will always be five minutes late, they will not start lecturing until you arrive. One downside to showing up late is that all the good seats will be taken. But a great professor will have your back and save the best seat just for you.

Dear College Guru,

I am a senior in high school. My school lets us postpone a test or major assignment in each class once a year. So I can spend all weekend at a music festival and postpone worrying about my AP English essay. How will this work in college?
—Coachella Bella

Dear Coachella Bella,

Wait, your school only allows you to postpone “once a year” for each class? How draconian of them! In college, you can postpone tests and assignments as often as you want. You will not even need to notify the professor in advance.

Many college professors will personally check with you to make sure that their assignments do not pose too much of a burden. In fact, with a really good professor, if you cannot find a time that is completely convenient for you to take a test, you can just tell the professor what you would have scored on the test.
