Great news, Starbies! During summer break, Chadwick will be opening its very own Starbucks on campus. The new addition will be located near the cafeteria.
Open only to students and faculty, the store will operate Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffeehouse, has grown in popularity in recent years for its snacks and other specialty food items.
Chadwick freshman Luke Nguyen, a frequent Starbucks customer, says, “Starbucks is a great breakfast place especially if it’s early morning. This is coming from a person who wakes up at 4 in the morning, and who goes at least twice a week.”
Similarly, Chadwick teachers realize that students are coming to class late with Starbucks in hand. Especially on Wednesdays, tardies are given to students who wanted an Iced Matcha Latte or Strawberry Refresher before class.
Lines are especially long on Wednesday, since nearby schools also have a later start that day. As a result, Chadwick students are forced to
prioritize their overall well-being by choosing between being prop-
erly hydrated and caffeinated … or being on time to class.
“I notice classmates coming into class late with Starbucks in hand,” says an anonymous Chadwick student. “I think a Starbucks on campus would increase attendance and reduce late arrivals. It’s a win-win situation for faculty and
the students!”
Similarly, Michael Cass, a weary Upper School math teacher, said, “Yesterday, I saw a student arrive at the parking lot to school 10 minutes late. As he was getting out of the car, I saw a Starbucks drink in his hand. All I could think was, you were late to school because you stopped at a Starbucks?”
Chadwick teachers are constantly having to deal with their students’ attitudes and questions. With their students’ exhausting behavior during class, teachers are left fatigued and decaffeinated after class.
“I cannot handle these darn students without my daily coffee!” Cass exclaimed.
Chadwick students were elated to hear that their beloved coffeehouse is coming to campus. Compared to the cafeteria’s notoriously protested prices, Starbucks and its familiar items may be preferable to the Chadwick community, even at their higher prices.
Students and faculty will no longer have to worry about being dehydrated and decaffeinated!
Thankfully, when our new Starbucks opens, student energy levels and morale should be at an all-time high.
Wonder if they’ll deliver to the classroom??
